TOM’S OYSTER BAR: The seafood-saloon approach received a slightly more upscale treatment at this expanded version of the familiar oyster havens. Although it’s still comfortably informal, the recently unveiled spot with a balcony dining room overlooking the high-ceilinged main floor has a Mediterranean-influenced menu as well as a list of fresh fish and sushi. Service is emphasized. Partners with founder Tom Brandel are Cheryl Kotlarz and Jon DeAngelis. 6570 Rochester Rd., Rochester Hills; 248-601-8888.L & D daily. $20. Handicapped accessible.

Please forward this to Molly Abraham, Restaurant and Food Critic:
Molly,
How long has it been since you you've gone to Laffrey's Steaks on the Hearth, on Seven Mile at Telegraph? My husband and I were there last Thursday...we live in Rosedale Park and go there to support a restaurant in the city, and wevstill so miss Maria's!
Anyway, I'm a vegetarian and Dewayne, the grill guy, makes me an awesome Cajun blackened vegetable platter. Mary Ann, the bartender, makes great Sezarac's and lives near Amerstburg, Ontario! And, of course, Darin, the chef and son of Sandy (bookkeeper-turned-owner), is always so concerned that everything comes out perfect and just the way the customer likes it.
So, re-visit them some time and get the vegetables!
And I've been a fan of your restaurant reviews for a long time.
Thanks for doing such a great job!
